Praying for Patience

I've always heard that you should never pray for patience for fear that God would actually allow you to be in a situation where you would have to be patient.  Recently I have needed an extra dose of patience and that"theory" has entered my mind.  However, I've been thinking...what is the problem if God allows me to do that very thing? Isn't that what I'm asking?  I need to learn how to wait.  Yes, it may be difficult and I may not enjoy it all that much.  I'm trusting that on the other side I will have been stretched and I won't be so afraid to ask next time...

  1. I kinda hate that saying. It makes God sound like an exasperated parent saying, "if that's what you want, i'll give it to you" instead of the merciful God who knows we're at the end of our rope and need a boost of His love and grace to extend it out to others. I've actually found when I pray for patience (especially as a mom), I'm able to look outside myself and the situation, and approach Roman with more gentleness. More proactive than reactive I guess? So I say go for it, pray for it, and I'll pray for you too. I don't think God is looking down on you saying, "I hope she doesn't pray for patience so that I have to stretch her more!" lol
